Piri's Outdoor Pursuits

About Piri Allergy

Piri are allergy experts and have 60 years experience in developing products to help tackle all these symptoms. Within the range there are a choice of treatments to suit the whole family; including Pirinase (suitable for 18 years+), a nasal spray which works directly at the source, and Piriteze, a tablet which provides up to 24 hour max strength allergy relief (suitable for children 6+ and adults).

That’s why we’re embarking on Piri’s Outdoor Pursuits: enabling families to get back to nature and enjoy the outdoors. Find out what happens as mum Colette, dad Dave and kids Ben, Chloe and Amy swap their house for a hut to spend a week learning about ecotherapy and wild living, while having fantastic family fun outdoors.

Enjoying the outdoors

Escaping into the great outdoors and getting close to nature is one of life’s great pleasures. The benefits are so strong that there is a recognised practice called ecotherapy that is designed to help improve your emotional and physical wellbeing through doing outdoor activities and reconnecting with nature.1

But if you suffer from allergies like hayfever, which are triggered by grass, tree and weed pollen, then being outdoors in the spring and summertime isn’t always so enjoyable. Fortunately there is something that can help relieve those unpleasant symptoms like sneezing, itchy and watery eyes and a runny, itchy or blocked-up nose.

But when you suffer with allergies and you're preparing to go camping in the woods in the middle of hayfever season, there are some things that may be useful to pack.

The Burgess family often suffer from allergies that strike in the spring; that's why they have been to Boots to get some products that they may need to help make sure that allergies don't spoil their fun on Piri’s Outdoor Pursuits.

5 essential wild camping tips

Wilderness Skills Instructor, Ben McNutt, has been helping the Burgess family settle into their new outdoors lifestyle. Here he shares his top wild camping tips:

  1. 1There are lots of wild campsites across the UK and many national parks permit wild camping, but check first and if you aren’t sure seek the landowner’s permission.
  2. 2Choose your site carefully. Don’t camp anywhere that is too exposed and windy or down in a damp valley. Check above for dead tree branches, which could fall on your tent and below for water on the ground, which could flood your tent.
  3. 3Invest in good boots and bedding, because if you are not in one, you’re in the other. If you have dry, warm feet and sleep well at night it makes all the difference.
  4. 4Eat well, because, just like an army, campers march on their stomachs. You’ll need lots of calories because you’ll be using up more energy than normal.
  5. 5Check that there is a good source of fire wood and water nearby, though make sure the water isn’t too close as the insects who breed there will be a pest.
